Things to do
Walking
The roads, vineyard tracks and woodland footpaths provide the basis for a variety of walking, from the easy ramble to the long distance hike. For the more serious walker, several GRs are within half an hour’s drive
Sketching and painting
The clear air, light quality and local natural colours make the area popular with artists. The area provides a variety of subjects from old buildings to sweeping landscapes and, as the sun moves across the sky, changing patches of shade stress the contours on the surrounding hills.
Swimming
A local lake offers swimming facilities, while further afield Carcassonne Plage has beaches on a freshwater lake, and the Mediterranean is just over an hour away.
Horse Riding
Two local stables offer riding.
Wine tasting
Local cave co-operatives and a host of independent wine producers provide tastings and sales in this the most extensive wine producing area in the world. Visit www.vins-languedoc-roussillon.fr and www.limoux-aoc.com for details, or ask for local recommendations.
...or just relax, read, eat, drink and enjoy the ambience.
